Volunteers needed ASAP! Please join Houston’s 2nd Platoon as we support the Independence Heights community in this time of need. A Mission Continues t-shirt and gloves will be provided for all volunteers. All skill levels welcome. Donations The community is in need of donated items to distribute to the community to help them recover. Donations may be dropped off at Ebenezer United Methodist Church located at 7206 North Main Street from 9 am to 3 pm Saturday (9/28) and Sunday (9/29). Items needed: air mattresses bed linen (sheets, pillowcases,blankets) towels baby items (diapers, baby wipes, etc) cleaning supplies (clorox, gloves, windex) hygiene products (soap, deodorant, lotion) laundry detergent, dishwashing soap non-perishable food items snacks water underwear, socks, tshirts, etc kids clothing fans buckets, spray bottles, trash bags mosquito spray, ant spray Neosporin, vaseline, alcohol Volunteers We are in need of volunteers to help "muck and gut" homes, trim trees, remove debris and sanitize homes. We have multiple areas affected around the community. Below is a draft schedule: 9am to 9:30am- Volunteer Gathering Volunteers will meet up at gathering location for kick off and orientation including safety training. 9:30am -2:30pm -Volunteer Work Activities Volunteers will disperse to assigned sites and will work onsite at designated homes. Food There will be an onsite lunch break at each site. Volunteers are encouraged to bring snacks and eat a nutritious breakfast on the event day. Restrooms Restrooms will be available near designated work sites via local church partner. Security In partnership with Harris County Precinct One Certified Emergency Response Team, security will patrol the area from 9am to 3pm. Communication Each worksite will have 2-3 key leaders. Parking Information
Volunteers may park their cars at 7206 North Main. Shuttle services will be provided via local church buses and transportation providers. Volunteers may also drive to worksite locations but will be challenged with street parking. We will provide an area map showing worksite abd hub locations.
