Evacuee Furniture Distribution Phase I: Hispanic Federation

When Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico last year, thousands of families were forced to evacuate to Central Florida with only their most personal possessions in tow. Many had to leave behind bulky items like furniture and bicycles in the process. Now, a little over a year later, as they transition out of short-term emergency housing and into more stable long-term housing, we have an opportunity to help bring a sense of dignity and normalcy back to their everyday lives. On the weekend before Veteran’s Day, we brought together more than 120 volunteers to build 225 pieces of furniture, repair 50 bicycles, and create more than 100 welcome home kits for Puerto Rican evacuee families. Now, it’s time to start putting smiles on faces. The first phase of furniture distribution will take place during Hispanic Federation’s (6900 S Orange Blossom Trail #200, Orlando, FL 32809) family-friendly event for PR Evacuees on Saturday, Dec 15th, between 10am and 2pm. There will be food, music, face painting, and more. For this event, registration is limited to 15 members. ***IMPORTANT*** The biggest need for assistance will be at our warehouse in Kissimmee from 7AM-9AM Saturday morning. We will be loading a portion of the support items on two trucks with lift gates. Many hands make light work and we’re going to need all hands on deck to make this event a success.
