The annual VetHack ruck march, now the largest veteran ruck march in New York City, strives to raise awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic in this nation. Currently, over 20 American veterans take their own lives every single day. That is one American hero nearly every hour who felt so without hope, so directionless, that they felt taking their own lives would actually unburden their family and loves ones with what they perceive as unnecessary stress they themselves are responsible for. The mission is not only to raise awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic but also to educate and to inspire real action from the community to end this crisis once and for all. VetHack partners with the most respected veteran service organizations in the city, various companies big and small, as well as the NYPD, FDNY, and other organizations who truly believe in our cause. The march is a3.4 mile ruck march at the USS Maine Monument at Columbus Circle. We step off on a well-paced ruck march around the Upper West Side of Manhattan, escorted by our brother and sisters in the NYPD.The March ends at the 20th Precinct in the Upper West Side where the the NYPD hold a BBQ social for us. After the BBQ, we are invited to socialize and network at the Gin Mill and Jake’s Dilemma.
