July 28th through August 4th meet up with TMC Orlando’s 1st and 2nd Service Platoons as we join forces to support an event you simply do not want to miss, The National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games. The 38th annual NVWGs are the largest annual wheelchair sporting event in the world with more than 850 Veterans from the United States and Great Britain. This does not include the hundreds of coaches, family members, volunteers and thousands of fans in the stands. There will be opportunities for members to volunteer at the Orange County Convention Center over each of the 9 days, as well as Tuesday through Friday at various off-site locations around Central Florida. *Important* Here's what we need from you: 1. Please register at http://wheelchairgames.org for any shifts you have available (If you forget, it's not the end of the world, you can register on location). 2. Please inform TMC PLT leadership of the shifts you're registered for. 3. Please take the time to read all information provided (including the quotes below) and ask questions as needed. This event has a lot of moving pieces but we want to make supporting it as painless as possible. *Check-in* · Volunteers must check in when they arrive for their shift. This facilitates a secure environment for all NVWG participants and is absolutely essential for smooth operations. · Orange Convention Center - Report to Room W221A · Off-site venues Look for signage for VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION *Location and address of events* Orange County Convention Center(OCCC) West Concourse, 9800 International Drive ***Free offsite parking is available 1 mile away from the OCCC at 5980 Destination Parkway, Orlando FL - OCCC Employee Lot – with shuttle service to the convention center all day*** Orlando International Airport (OIA), One Jeff Fuqa Blvd Boardwalk Bowl,10749 East Colonial Drive City of Oviedo Aquatic Center, 148 Oviedo Blvd The First Academy Track, 2667 Bruton Blvd National Training Center Clermont, 1935 Don Wickham Dr. Polk County Trap and Skeet,150 Spirit Lake Rd. What To Wear
Wear your TMC Blue shirt but be prepared to change if asked. All pre-registered volunteers should receive an official NVWG volunteer t-shirt to wear during their shifts. Only one shirt will be issued to each volunteer regardless of the number of shifts served. On the day of your shift – pleas wear comfortable and safe footwear. The key to comfort is to be prepared for unseasonably warm weather and the possibility of rain. Bring a light jacket or rain coat if you will be attending outdoor events.
What to Bring
One free meal voucher will be provided per day and all event venues will have light snacks and liquid refreshments. We recommend you also pack a snack and water in case a situation arises that prevents you from getting food in a timely manner.
