New Orleans Platoon

Event overview

Join us on 9/29 as we commemorate 9/11 with a National Day of Service. This is an annual and national event where Service Platoons from around the country will be serving to make a difference in their community. The New Orleans Platoon will be supporting this nationwide effort of service by building a house! We will be partnering with uncommon Construction, a nonprofit organization that provides hands-on learning and experience to high school students through their construction apprentice program. We will be working alongside the team of high school apprentices and build managers to complete wall framing, sheathing and preparing the house for roof trusses Here’s a brief timeline of what to expect: 8:30a - 9:00a: Volunteer Arrival, Welcome & Safety Orientation 9:00a - 11:30a: Work Time 11:30a - 12:15p: Lunch (remain on site and will be provided) 12:30p - 3:45p: Work Time 3:45p - 4:00p: Closing Ceremony (with ice cream!) It will be a full day of work and if you have to leave after lunch that will be fine! But this is a learning day for the students so a great opportunity to empower these youth apprentices! Please note this will not be a safe place for minors so we request only volunteers age 18+. CHARLIE MIKE
