Join The Mission Continues' Boston 1st Service Platoon as we partner with the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation to support their urban farming efforts. OASIS at Ballou is an urban agriculture site meant to provide residents with access to locally grown healthy food, a tot lot space for young children to explore nature in their own community, provide opportunities for youth employment, and promote intergenerational learning. At Oasis at Ballou, volunteers will work with CSNDC Farm Manager and staff to perform site preparation for 2018 the growing season. Work will consist of applying geotextile protective fabric,spreading/application of wood chips, trimming of overgrowth, weeds, construction of two raised growing beds, arrangement and placement of approximately 500 grow socks, planting of pollinator promoting flowers along front side of site, seedling planting of early crops, planting of two fruit bearing trees, repair of chain link fence along side of farm and general site maintenance. This is a family-friendly event for ages 6+, and lunch will be provided.
