On January 13th, 2018, come join the Mission Continues Orange County 1st Platoon as we honor and celebrate Dr. King's legacy by taking on a community service project in partnership with Inside the Outdoors Foundation. Meet Inside the Outdoors' staff in the upper parking lot. Minimum Age - 2 MLK Day of Service Date: Saturday, January 13, 2018 Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Location: Upper Newport Bay/Muth Center, 2301 University Dr., Newport Beach, CA 92660 Details: Upper Newport Bay is one of California's last remaining coastal wetlands. The estuary is home to several endangered species. The location is beautiful with many migratory and year-round resident birds. Our volunteers will assist with native plant restoration and trash clean-up. The project is perfect for families (children of any age are welcome). After you're done volunteering, there is a very cool Interpretive Center at the Park. It is fun and educational for volunteers of all ages. No special skills are needed and we will provide gloves and trash bags. Trash grabbers are not provided so if you want to you bring your own, that's great! We recommend wearing close-toed shoes and please bring your own reusable water bottle (we'll have water to refill your bottles - just not the bottles). How This Helps Our Community Over 10,000 students each year visit Upper Newport Bay as part of an Inside the Outdoors field trip program. The MLK Day of Service project is our way to engage the community in the care of such an important ecological and educational resource. As always feel free to contact me with any questions.
