Gardopia Gardens Support Event

June 09, 2018

10:00 AM - 01:30 PM CDT

San Antonio Platoon

Event overview

San Antonio 1st Platoon will report for duty with Gardopia Gardens. Beginning in 2015, Gardopia Gardens was created by Stephen Lucke and partners to address health issues in Eastside San Antonio. This wonderful organization was initially funded through a grant by SAHA. Stephen Lucke’s vision for Gardopia Gardens is implementing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. Through this grant in collaboration with SAHA, Gardopia became the first Urban Garden in Eastside San Antonio. Since its birth, Gardopia has became a place where members of the community can grow their own food and learn about the importance of practicing wellness through Garden-Based Learning. This past Earth Day Weekend, Gardopia began its first expansion to Hays Street creating the Hays Street Orchard by planting 20 Fruit Trees in a vacant lot! On Saturday, June 9th our tasks include cleaning and weeding along with other gardening, organizing the storage container, creating an inventory, restoring the stage and Tiki Hut demolition. Food and beverages will be provided.
