Hazelwood Food Recycling Site- For the Love of Angel

July 19, 2025

09:30 AM - 12:30 PM EDT

Pittsburgh Platoon

Event overview

4501 Sylvan Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207

Join us at the Sylvan Ave Composting Site as we remember our fallen hero Angel. Angel loved a good service project that involved the gritty-goodness and dirty side of service work. He was a dedicated member of our team for many years. His impact was felt deeply in the Pittsburgh communities.

The workload will include, but not be limited to, gardening, weed pulling, Turing compost, and learning about “food recycling”.

There will be a social event afterward at Hazelgrove Brewery.

Please note that this site is appropriate for folks with full mobility. It is not wheelchair accessible. Youth over 14 are invited but must sign the waiver and be accompanied by an adult.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
