Operation: Plant It Forward, Earth Day 2023; GDP Phase IV

April 22, 2023

08:00 AM - 02:30 PM CDT

Birmingham Platoon

Event overview

The Birmingham Service Platoon will be planting 150 azaleas within & around George Dailey Park as well as providing home garden care packages to community members & the surrounding area to celebrate Earth Day 2023. We encourage the citizens of Shelby County to get connected with the area around them through starting their own home garden. Packages will include a variety of food seeds along with materials to begin the journey of growing what you eat. Platoon leadership is currently seeking approximately 30 individuals to carryout & finalize aspects of Phases 1-4 of the George Dailey Park Revitalization project. Bring your own tools if you have them because we always appreciate a skilled professional. If you don't have tools but would like to get some hands-on volunteer build experience then please contact platoon leadership to find out what jobs are available the day of the event to be completed. No build experience necessary, just a GREAT attitude & willingness to take direction while learning to lead through volunteer service. Skilled professionals: once again you guys are always welcome to bring your load-out of tools & equipment! Horticulturists, landscapers & gardeners are encouraged to volunteer for this earth day phased project as well! Platoon leadership asks that if you are interested in volunteering for administrative support day of the event to please reach out. Breakfast & lunch will be provided to all volunteers. Children & disabled individuals are always welcome. This will be an up-tempo, high paced environment. A sound system will be on-site so we will be "Death by iTunes' ALL-DAY-LONG. Bring a friend. Bring a group of friends! We can't wait to execute this phase of the project & the staff at TMC Birmingham can't wait to see you there! -Pat
