Join the DC Platoon as we clean up the Ward 8 Woods Part II. We made a huge difference removing over 1000 tires, now it is time to get the rest. On October 2nd from 10AM to 2 PM, volunteers will join Ward 8 Woods staff in one the largest clean-ups of illegal dumping in recent memory. Congress Park is one of the most challenged sections of Ward 8, and the city-owned forest that borders it to the south are among the most polluted. In recent year more than 1,000 tires have been illegal dumped, along with other debris. This junk is an eyesore that contaminate the soil, water and air. Tires trap warm stagnant water, a perfect breeding group for mosquitoes and other critters that could harm the residents who use the trails in the woods. Registration will begin at 10:00 AM and the event will kick off promptly at 10:30AM. All volunteers will meet at 2830 Robinson Place SE. Make sure to wear long pants and closed toed shoes (boots are recommended). Nearest Metro is 7 min walk from work site. Congress Heights Metro (Green line)
