Michael Fuga
MCI Provisioning Agent and Sergeant First Class Michael T. Fuga, Army National Guard, was activated and deployed to duty in Afghanistan in February, 2005. He served as an "embedded team member" and lived with the Afghanistan National Army where he was involved in training, planning, and executing missions.
Michael's wife, Justina, recalls not only his bravery and dedication to his duty but also his tender heart for the children of Afghanistan. He frequently asked those back home to send clothing and school supplies that could be distributed to the children who had nothing. Michael died on September 9, 2006 in Kandahar as a result of injuries he sustained in an encounter with enemy forces during combat operations. He was posthumously promoted to Sergeant First Class.
In addition to his wife Justina, Michael is survived by his 12 year old daughter, Salome, and innumerable Southwest Airlines Family Members and friends who grieve his death.
